Shattered Galaxies {Color Burst + Gelli Printing}

Color Burst and Gelli Printing Plates are the perfect pair! I had so much fun experimenting with monoprints using a variety of Color Burst hues and the adorable 3" Circle Mini Gelli Plate. I used coordinating ribbon to bind the printed pages into a colorful mini art journal that made me think of exploding stars and planets.

To begin the journal, I used Indigo, Ultramarine Blue, and Violet Color Burst watercolors to create a rich, saturated background on 4 3/4" square Fabriano Medioevalis Cards

When the pages were dry, I sprinkled a bit of Alizarin Crimson, Yellow Ochre, and Orange Color Burst on to the Mini Circle Gelli Plate and spritzed it with water. I carefully turned the plate over and stamped it randomly onto the pages.

For the next layers I spread an even coat of Golden Titanium White Heavy Body Paint on to the Gelli Plate, sprinkled with the same trio of Color Burst powders and stamped on to the pages until all the paint was gone. I reloaded the plate with paint and Color Burst and added more layers to the pages until I felt they were complete.

Finishing details included gold dots created with metallic gold Faber-Castell Texture Gems and white dots made with a Uni-ball Signo white pen. To create the title, I stamped the word "Shattered" with Pegz Uppercase Clickable Letterz and Lamp Black Ink. The word "Galaxies" came from an old book. When the pages were dry, I nestled all three together and punched two holes about 3/4" from the top and bottom. I used white seam binding dyed with Color Burst to bind the pages together.
