Spring Bling Floral Garland

Spring has finally arrived in my corner of the world and I am so happy to see all the trees blooming and flowers popping up everywhere! I was thrilled to learn that the March challenge for the Ken Oliver Creative Team is Spring and Florals! I love to have twinkling lights in my studio all year long, so I decided to create a lighted floral garland using an inexpensive battery-powered garland and some colorful paper posies. This is such a fun project and would look great in any room of the house!

To create the blooms all you need are 5 flower shapes and a circle for the center. I used a flower punch and a 1 1/4" circle punch, but you can use templates or cut the shapes out freehand if you prefer. The blooms can made in any size that you like. Gorgeous Color Splash double-sided paper from Ken Oliver Crafts makes this project so fun and easy!

For the next step lightly mist the petals and circle with a bit of water to make them pliable. Gently scrunch the paper shapes to add texture and dimension. Allow them to dry for a minute or so and then use the Tool-It-All or other hole punch to create an opening in the centers. Make sure the hole isn't too large so the petals will fit snuggly on the bulbs of the garland you are using.

Layer the petals one at a time over the bulb and then add the center as the final touch. You can use a bit of adhesive or double-sided tape on either side of the center openings to secure the petals and center together. Turn on the switch and you have a sparkling floral garland for Spring!
